Hello again, and thank you for looking in on my blog. This month, I am reflecting on all the
conversations I have had with family, friends, colleagues and acquaintances. Listening to
how they are feeling, some in depth and some in passing. There is a common theme. Loss.
Yes, we can acknowledge the sad loss of any loved one, and victims of the Covid pandemic
are most certainly included. What other loss could there be, do you ever wonder?
HEALTH and access to routine HEALTHCARE;
The list goes on and on.
Have you suffered any of these losses since that first lockdown in March 2020, as so many
others have but can barely recognise their own sense of loss?
Whenever we, as humans, suffer a loss, there is a natural grieving process to take place. We
understand and empathise with the death of a loved one. What of these other losses?
Grief has no cure, but we can learn to manage it and live with it. This usually becomes less
challenging as time passes and everyone is different. Grief is not a problem to solve, rather
an emotional response to dissolve within your being, so that it remains part of your make
I am reminded of that scene in the film Shirley Valentine, when Tom Conti’s character fawns
over Shirley’s stretch marks. It shows you have lived, he enthuses. Grief and loss create
stretch marks in our minds and, yes, they too show that you have lived.
